The drain field’s job is to hold water that leaves the septic tank until it can be absorbed into the surrounding soil. Problems can start here in many ways, and are often more noticeable on days when your household is using a lot of water.
When water sits in the drain lines for too long, a slimy bacterial coating forms along the walls of the trench. (Disgusting) This essentially stops proper drainage of wastewater. When the household overloads the septic system by using too much water, the lines are never able to dry out.
Another cause of failing drain fields is excessive solid waste accumulating in the bottom of the septic system. This puts the drain field at a high risk of clogging when large amounts of water are flushed into the system. This can easily be solved by caring for your system and having it pumped out every 2 -3 years.
